At Innovative Healthcare Family Practice & Wound Care Management Care

Innovative wound management often requires debridement, a procedure that removes dead or unhealthy tissue from a wound. This process fosters healing and prevents infection by eliminating areas where bacteria can thrive.

At Innovative Healthcare Family Practice & Wound Care Management, we perform debridement as part of a holistic treatment plan. By removing dead tissue, we help wounds heal more effectively while reducing the risk of complications. After assessing your wound and overall health, our specialist will determine whether debridement is necessary and identify the most suitable approach.

Types of Wound Debridement

Biological Debridement - The application of larvae that consume dead tissue while preserving healthy tissue. Though effective, this approach is less commonly used due to patient preferences.

Surgical Debridement - A careful examination of the wound, with dead tissue removed to preserve healthy tissue.

Autolytic Debridement - Ideal for minor, non-infected wounds, these special dressings encourage the body’s natural processes to clear the wound.

Enzymatic Debridement - Synthetic enzymes are applied to dissolve dead tissue. While effective, this method requires careful monitoring to protect surrounding healthy skin.

Mechanical Debridement - Physics methods, such as hydrotherapy with saline or monofilament debridement pads, are used to remove dead tissue and bacteria.
